Ok so I was watching 7&8 last night again (only second time around actually). A few things came to mind.
The acting between Peter Firth and Gemma Jones is outstanding. I think it was PF's best in the whole series thus far. Much of PF's emotions and performance actually came from his facial expressions. That is very hard to convey with either hardly saying a word at all to being very calm cool and collected. How the man didn't get nominated for a BAFTA I'll never know because he sure deserved it. In ep. 7 he really was able to live up to Harry's self control. What makes things even more impressive is how calm he was never raising a voice. It shows that he has been through it before but as an innocent man and not wanting to betray his country he shows all signs of it. That is great acting!
What I really liked watching it from a tech side this time as well. The editing, pacing, music, lighting and everything else was perfect.
The EDITING: The editing was fantastic though when Lucas is killing the Russian and they cut to B roll of the lady dancing really don't need to see her butt that much in my face or for that matter at all. But with that and the death of Ben at the same time was actually very poetic in a sense. Also, going with the slow motion on the Grid with Ros walking and the sped up action that is tossed in. Very well laid out.
Pacing: the pacing for the whole of the episode was on target which reverts back to the editing. Everything was timed out just right between going back and forth from Russia to the Grid, and then to poor Harry being interrogated.
Well I'm not going to go into everything else as my head would explode. I will say Harry really needed his Ruth from this series that is for sure!!! I'd give him a hug if I could *cough* there I go again!
