DEC 30th The Turn of the Screw - 9:00 BBC1 - is a classic MR James ghost story studying the interactions between the living and the dead. A young governess, Ann, is sent to a country house to take care of two orphans, Miles and Flora. Soon after her arrival, Miles is expelled from his boarding school. Although charmed by her young charges, Ann secretly fears there are ominous reasons behind Miles' expulsion. Stars Michelle Dockery, Sue Johnston and the divine Nicola Walker and looks terrific. Of course, the BBC have a great tradition in this sort of field going all the way back to Whistle & I'll Come To You in the 1960s. Oh I REALLY, REALLY want to see this. It looks great. And I love that in the synopsis they describe NW as 'divine'. I wholeheartedly agree.

Oooh, this looks wonderful!! Can't wait to see it, hopefully PBS over here will pick it up or I'll have a complete breakdown and have to think of alternative viewing methods. NW is "devine" isn't she?

Nicola's character was so creepy. The cinematography was gorgeous! Fantastic job as always, BBC!
Though her role was small, v.v. memorable. I'm not sure if I could read the original short story since this gave me the heebe-jeebes. Great story telling.
Also...HELLO DAN STEVENS a.k.a Mr. Edward Ferrars 2.0! LOL.

Finally got this out from the library. Loved Nicola's part but unfortunately for my own viewing pleasure I can't stand Michelle Dockery. She was awful as Ophelia in Hamlet and pretty awful in this too Whoever was the housekeeper was good though. I wish Nicola's character was explained more. I thought she was really interesting. Now I will have to read the original story I thought the cinematography was lovely and the house footage was scary too. Ironically I am currently reading Emilie Autumn's book The Assylum for Wayward Victorian Girls so this film was pretty interesting to watch in terms of that. To whoever said the thing about The Others, they are similar because The Others was inspired by TTOTS.
