Afternoon Play – Lifecoach Monday 26 April 2.15-3.00pm BBC RADIO 4
Nicola Walker and Stephen Tompkinson star in Nick Walker's new comedy drama about a life coach who lands the job of a lifetime.
It takes Derby Anderson 43 minutes and 59 seconds to get from her car to the hotel room where the Secretary General of the United Nations is waiting for a life-coaching session. But Derby needs to get her own life sorted out in those 43 minutes or she won't be of any help to anyone.
In a real-time journey which weaves in and around the lives of Derby and the security aide, Jack, who accompanies her, listeners get to learn more intimately about their lives the closer they get to the door of the hotel suite.
Lifecoach is a new play in John Dryden's occasional series, Forty-Three Fifty-Nine, which follows one person's perspective in what plays out as one continuous take. It was recorded on location in Broadcasting House, London, and an underground car park.
The cast stars Nicola Walker as Derby, Stephen Tompkinson as Jack and Patrice Naiambana as the Secretary General, with Paul Panting playing the other characters.

Oh, that was just delightful! I loved it. They are so talented! And just hearing them together...there is such great chemistry. I'd love to actually see them recording this. Facial expressions, what they're wearing, the interaction, if any, with each other or if they're just at their microphones. Is it all done in one room with the sound effects? It amazes me. Just so entertaining. I'll have to listen again before the times up. Thanks for posting! Such a treat. Oh and NW is the most AWESOME of AWESOMES EVER!

I listened to a bit of this last night, but I was too tired to finish it. The bit I heard was amazing though! Nicola was brilliant as ever ;D

Thanks flip for the 'heads up' on "Lifecoach" and cbj for the link. Nicola is so talented but natural with it at the same time. :-)

I listened to the rest of this last night, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm not very familiar with radio plays, but I think they're really quite good. Both Nicola's and Stephen Tomkinson's acting was so good that you don't even miss the visual aspect, in fact I think it works better with audio only! I'll definitely be listening to this again before the iPlayer link expires.

I just finished listening to this and I really, really loved it. It's so great to hear Nicola acting with Stephen Tomkinson again and it was a really entertaining little play. I was very smiley by the end.

I have lost track of how many times I've listened to this. Even though you know what's coming it's still entertaining and so much fun to listen to

I thought it wasn't anything special the first time round (maybe because I kept comparing it to BTAS. Stupid, stupid me) but now I LOVE it. I just needed to give it a couple of listens. Also, I never cease to be astounded by Nicola's voice work. She is really, really, REALLY good at it. I could listen to her radio plays forever
