Which of your favorite scenes between Ruth and Harry from series 2-5 were revived in series 8?
Last year, the writers recreated many dialogue scenes between Ruth and Harry from classic series 2-5 moments for Ruth’s return. And NW and PF created even more call backs to their intense past by using gestures that connected series 8 to their many vibrant scenes in series 2 -5. I’ll start with the first one.
(Please number your scenes in sequence so we can count them up as we go.)
1. 4.9 and 8.3: Golden Moments Remembered (by Harry only)
In 4.9, R: “It’s good to have you back.” H: “It’s good to be back.”
In 8.3, H: “And Ruth” R: “Yes Harry” H: “It’s good to have you back.” R: (haltingly) “It’s good to be back.”
Does anyone have number 2 in mind?

Shoot I can't think of the exact dialog at the moment but in terms of scenes 'Roof top'
5.2 or was it 5.3 (I'm really out of it if I can't remember 100% ) 8.8 Roof top

I've been calling 'the roof top' 'the balcony'. oops. I like your connection. In 5.3 Ruth and Harry talk of thermonuclear bombs and homegrown terrorists and then he asks her out for dinner! And in 8.8 they talk of 'controlled holocaust' and then the beauty of "Ode to Joy" which causes Harry to reveal his enduring love for Ruth. (She knew it wasn't the wind.) That's the life of R and H, violent destruction and sweet love, "thermonuclear bombs and white burgundy." Is that what you meant, cbj? :-)

Sorry being sick lack of brain functioning properly. I hope you get will soon, and truly fit for your upcoming trip! Found out bronchitis so get some meds in me. Then I can run around London! What I really liked with Harry and Ruth during s8 is that you can see the brokenness and a progression towards the end.

Meds. are good. And London is better! NW was so incredibly consistent in how she showed Ruth's slow recovery from her brokenness in S.8. Then in 8.8 she was finally back to her happy, enthusiastic self, almost. (she was talking about the fake codes and bets on Japanese soccer.) And Harry realized Ruth had returned, full force, as he stared at her as if she were a new person.

Another thing we can somewhat relate from past to s8.
Harry trusting Ruth with information, and flat out trusting her. In s2 when at the famous 'bench' scene and then come s8 another bench 'new'. More then just that in s8 he keeps telling Ruth information because he trusts her completely.
In 5.5 first time we see Ruth the only time alone in Harry's office not only that but the only person ever to be welcomed to sit in his seat. Then in 8.6 she is standing there in his office when he is not there. Yet once again the only person ever to be welcomed in his office when no one else is like that.

Great catch, cbj, especially the part that she is welcome in his office even when he's not there in series 8 too! I like it. He trusts her even when he's so angry with her he can't think clearly.(8.4) :-) 2.5 and 8.1 Death and the B*****d In 2.5, during a training exercise, Harry convinces his team that the ‘End of the World’ has arrived and that he is dead. When he emerges from his office, alive and well, Ruth says, “You B*****d”. Her expression shows that she is truly repelled by his manipulative actions. In 8.1 Harry capitulates to the torturer, Mani, for a moment to delay and deflect. Ruth, relieved, thinks he’s going to give in so that her step-son will be spared. But Harry speaks only to eventually say he won’t tell. Consequently, Ruth is doubly furious when Harry says he won’t give in even if the boy is killed. This time when Ruth says, “Heartless B*****d”, she has an expression of loathing on her face. Poor Ruth, Poor Harry.

5.5 and 8.8: Intense ‘Pod Partings’ In 5.5, Harry to bodyguard: “Do not address me!” Then we see the last glimpse exchanged between R and H through pod glass until their final goodbye at the dock. (Harry’s enraged overreaction signals his intense feelings for Ruth to everyone present, including Ruth.) In 8.8, R to H: (loud and demanding) “Harry!” He turns around to look at Ruth through the pod glass for the last time in series 8. (Ruth’s overreaction signals her special feelings for Harry to the assembled ‘crisis’ staff and to Harry as well. )
