Ok have to talk about this episode. I noticed that when Ruth is sitting in Harry's chair that he doesn't kick her out, and doesn't seem to mind that she is sitting. There is a change in the relationship. Lucky Ruth getting to kiss Harry oh, darn what a tough day to show up on set Harry Pearce can fight for me any day *drooling* *cough* ok I'm fine now. Has anyone had the feeling that now after watching 5.5 that Ruth leaving is no longer forever but just a short memory? That's what I got today when riding the Metro into DC for a quick visit.

Only Ruth would get away with sitting in Harry's chair I'm so happy that Ruth will be back for S8, after all these years without her working beside Harry, it's going to great to see her back, hopefully on the grid. I'm interested to see what she has been up to... hope she didn't get married

I just love when Jo notices how close they are. Couldn't help it, eh? Sheer magnatism.

I was wondering about this. Harry tells Mace that he left his real name at the door. So to me I am wondering 1) is Harry Pearce his real name 2) Whenever he had to meet with Mace at his little club before in the past does he give a different name other than Harry Pearce like Bob Smith?
Ok that is what I was wondering

Ok watching this episode again. Looking at it from the aspect of the evidence against Ruth. Let's start with the gun. Does Ruth know how to shoot a gun? They didn't run a finger print scan on the gun so that alone is big so how would she have shot anyone. Where is the evidence that she was working with the whole Acts of Truth. There isn't any evidence what's so ever. The cover up on Ruth is just out there of not even close to linking her to it. They never would have found anything on Ruth's computer nothing in her house unless it was planted but then again going back to basic's no finger print. Yes Maurdsley (sp) some how used Ruth to help but that was just to clear his name it seems and get the truth out. Why Ruth that is the missing key.
Then the photograph that they photo shop with changing out Ruth. I work with photo shop all the time there is no way they could have done that really fast. It is a pain trying to get very detailed. I can speed a good hour just making sure I get things to look right.
Just so much does not add up to section D or Ruth being involved.
In the end it is simple on bringing her back. They could have brought her back ages ago but nooooooo. Of course then again Nicola did have kid which is really exciting.

They could have brought her back ages ago but nooooooo. Of course then again Nicola did have kid which is really exciting. ~~~ Okay, so seeing that I've seen this epi like 25x and I finally understand it I'll answer your questions~ gun ~ no fingerprint cause she wore gloves. Maudsley~ Adam said that Maudsley used Ruth to get to Harry. 'Close but not too close' He needed to get the info of Cotterdam scandal to Harry and Ruth was the go between. Acts of Truth~ The fact that Ruth went to the morgue to see Maudsley and went to his house pinned her as working with AOT. Though she was trying to find the 'drop' unfortuately it was the wrong one and even if she found the right drop someone from SD would still have to take the fall. The microfilm document pinned a Section D officer as 'Fox' at the meeting so someone from Harry's team would have to take the blame if ever the doc was found and exposed. Which they obviously did. Photoshop~ The magic of tv. Sometimes you don't know how long the time has past. It may have taken them an hour though we wouldn't want this painful process on screen for that long. That would make a boring 'spooks' ep Also they might have some uber super fast photoshop program. I don't think bringing Ruth back is as simple as bringing Ros back. With Ruth, I remember Ruth asking Zaf 'Where do I go from here?' and he said, 'That's up to you.' So she had to disappear and no one would know where she was so if she didn't want to be found then she wouldn't be. So seeing that Harry is napped (he's not a kid) Malcolm finds the postcards and figures out where she is. (maybe?) Also all the people involved with the Cotterdam scandal would most likely have to be silenced or dead for her to come back from the dead. So I'm interested to see how they bring her back. I just think that there are underlying factors that the writer's can spin that has not brought her back sooner. I hope that answered some of your questions.

One of the best episodes EVER! I watch it with my hand shielding my eyes and half in tears. I'm slowly collecting Spooks series (now own 2-4) but can't bring myself to puchase S5. I hold this episode responsible. It's brilliant -- the scene at the docks just rips my heart out every time. And everytime I keep on thinking it will end differently.
I just can't seem to watch the rest of S5 after this episode. Wonder if I could convince Kudos to release a special DVD set of just the first 5 episodes of this series. All I can do for the rest is think: Ruth could have fix this! Ruth wouldn't do it that way!

I've only watched this episode once... and it will take me awhile to watch it again. I couldn't see for tears by the end.

The only two Spooks episodes I absolutely cannot rewatch because of the trauma they inflicted upon me are this one and the one where Zoe left.

I went to London and did a Thames Cruise. There was a little junk moored alongside us almost exactly like the one Ruth left in in 5.5. I was overcome by a wave of sadness This episode really, really scarred me. The bit where Ruth tells Zaf to walk away with a smile if he says her... that... that was awful. really awful Oh this episode. Why are you so traumatic?

This is and always will be one of my favourite episodes of Spooks. It's so sad but it's filled with so much heart you can't help but adore it. I really ached when I first saw this. Poor, brave, brilliant Ruth.

^I definitely think its one of the best Spooks episodes out... alongside 7.8 and 3.6, but I still can't watch it. Too painful. I think I can only watch it again when I know for sure Ruth gets a happy ever after
