I hope it's alright that I start this topic? It's just that I was searching for something like this and couldn't find one.

Do you have your own equivalent of Proust’s madeleine?
Scrag stew. My maternal grandmother made it, and so did my mum. Pearl barley, carrots and fabulous lumps of scrag [best end of neck of lamb].
What has been your worst kitchen disaster?
It was at Christmas two years ago, in my brother in law’s flat in Blackheath. We had a massive turkey, which we wrestled into the oven, but later turkey juice started pouring on to the floor. We had to massacre it into smaller bits.
What do you eat or drink in the morning?
Breakfast is a battle. I never feel like eating, but I have now found my way to porridge. I have it with full fat milk and banana.
Which food or drink do you find most irresistible?
Roast potatoes, I can’t say no. At Christmas I reach over for the fifth or sixth one, and I think I could keep going until I explode.
What, in your opinion, is the most underrated food?
Kidneys and liver. I’m married to a vegetarian, so if ever we go out to dinner, I go for kidneys.
What is the most alarming meal you’ve had?
I was on a tour of a Restoration comedy in 1996, and in Moscow we stayed at the Metropole hotel, off Red Square. The food there was opulent but in the Maly theatre canteen, there were just a few pieces of rye bread, peanuts and gherkins.
I stood in the queue and burst into tears.
What would be your last meal?
Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and brussels sprouts.
